Ivybridge is a charming town in the South Hams district of Devon, surrounded by beautiful countryside and moorland. It is a southern gateway to Dartmoor National Park and also lies along the A38 Devon Expressway road. The River Erme flows through the centre and Western Beacon overlooks the town. Manmade landmarks include the 13th-century hump-backed Ivy Bridge, viaduct over the river and the paper mill. In the centre of the town are two war memorials. The Watermark is a library, entertainment venue and cinema. The shopping area is mainly along Fore Street and in Glanville’s Mill Shopping Centre and there are six traditional pubs. Ivybridge is an excellent base for walking in Dartmoor. Follow the route of the old china clay railway to Redlake in the heart of the moor, or by the Erme through Longtimber Woods. The Two Moors Way, which crosses Dartmoor and Exmoor, starts in Ivybridge and finishes in Lynmouth on the North Devon coast.
