The West Yorkshire market town of Ossett is located just off junction 40 of the M1, a few miles west of Wakefield. The town is part of the Heavy Woollen District, historically one of the key textile centres of Yorkshire, with a number of textile producers still situated in the town. It was also formerly a part of the coal mining industry in the area. Visitors will find a selection of good restaurants as well as traditional pubs serving food. There are local shops and amenities in the centre of Ossett including several banks, newsagents, takeaways, bakeries, as well as several supermarkets. Other local attractions include the twice-weekly market on Tuesdays and Fridays and the independent Ossett Brewery, specialising in award-winning real ales and offering brewery and taproom tours, plus a shop. Landmarks in the town include Trinity Church, with a spire that rises to 226 feet which can be seen for miles around.
