The West Yorkshire town of Keighley is situated where the River Worth joins the River Aire, on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The town grew from the mid-19th century with the success of the area's textile industry. During the Industrial Revolution, Keighley had several large factories producing wool and cotton cloth. The town retains some impressive Victorian buildings. There are good shopping amenities in the Airedale Centre which houses high street retailers and the town also has various supermarkets, a cinema, award-winning brewery and plenty of cafés, pubs and restaurants. Cliffe Hall is on the outskirts of Keighley and houses the local museum. A trip on the Keighley and Worth Valley Heritage Steam Railway takes you through some of Yorkshire’s most pretty villages, including Haworth. This charming Yorkshire village is best known as the home of the famous Brontë sisters. Keighley is situated in Airedale, a scenic valley, popular with hikers and walkers. Part of the river is the Aire and Calder Navigation Canal which also offers pleasant traffic-free walks and abundant wildlife.
