Goole is a town and inland port approximately 45 miles from the North Sea at the confluence of the rivers Don and Ouse in the East Riding of Yorkshire. As well as having a rich maritime heritage, Goole was once a hub for the coal industry. Its maritime history and industrial past is written into its skyline; alongside tall cranes and derricks, there are distinctive water towers and proud Victorian buildings. Walk into the centre and you will also discover the new Goole, a bustling vehicle-free shopping centre with its own market hall and an abundance of quiet gardens and parks. Junction, a theatre and cinema, provides live music, theatre, comedy, satellite screening broadcasts and film.

Visit the fascinating Waterways Museum for the history of Goole and see the Tom Pudding barges that drove the growth of coal. Take a tour of the working docks and view the ships and shipyards, or walk and fish on the banks of the Knottingley and Goole Canal. Visit the Thorne and Hatfield Moors, the largest peat bogs in Britain, and a protected site packed with over 200 species of birds and over 5,000 different invertebrates. Alternatively, spend a day in The Blacktoft Sands Nature reserve with marsh harriers, avocets and over 270 other species.
