Oakamoor is a picturesque small village close to Alton Towers in the Churnet Valley, close to the Peak District. Its location provides relatively easy access to the Staffordshire Way, Hawksmoor Nature Reserve, Dimmingsdale and the Churnet Valley Way. Ramblers and walkers will find plenty of walks around the village and for cyclists there is a track, which runs from Oakamoor all the way to Denstone about 3 miles away, with tearooms to keep you refreshed. The River Churnet runs through the village and is perfect for waterside picnics. In years gone by, the village was humming to the sound of the great industrial revolution. The area which is now a park and picnic place, used to be the site of a great copper factory, the remnants of which can still be seen. There is a marked information trail around the village telling the fascinating story of Oakamoor's part in the industrial revolution.
