Burton upon Trent, or simply Burton, is a town on the River Trent in East Staffordshire, close to the border with Derbyshire. The town originally grew up around Burton Abbey and Burton Bridge was the site of two battles. Burton is famous for being a centre for the brewing industry, due in part to the quality of the local water. It is a busy market town with excellent shopping facilities and attractions. The town's connection with the brewing industry is celebrated in The Burton Cooper, a bronze sculpture by James Walter Butler, depicting a local craftsman. The National Brewery Centre celebrates the town's brewing heritage and Marston’s Brewery offer informative tours. Claymills Pumping Station is a restored Victorian pumping station in the town, with a visitor centre and shop.
