Bishops Frome is a village in a peaceful, rural location in eastern Herefordshire. The village is midway between Hereford and Worcester. As the name indicates, it is found on the River Frome and in the centre is a village green. Local attractions include the Hop Pocket Shopping Village with its unique independent shops and restaurant. There are five historic churches in the vicinity. The parish church of St Marys, contains a font over 700 years old and is approached through a handsome lychgate. Locally, this is an area producing hops, cider apples and wine, which is made nearby at the Frome Valley Vineyard. Open to visitors 3 days a week, this is a 1.5-hectare vineyard, with a shop selling wines, cider, brandy and other wine-related gifts. For keen geologists, the village gives its name to the Bishops Frome Limestone which outcrops locally and defines the boundary between the Silurian and the Devonian periods of the Anglo-Welsh Basin rocks.
