Beaumaris, situated on the Isle of Anglesey, is a seaside town with a captivating seafront and a delightful pier which stretches out onto the Menai Strait making it a popular fishing and crabbing spot. Coupled with views over the Menai Strait and Snowdonia National Park, this little town is hard to beat. Take a walk through the streets and admire the mixture of medieval, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture on offer, with charming pastel-coloured cottages. Beaumaris has lots of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants with an excellent market where you can buy a range of local produce and goods.
Beaumaris Castle, which is a World Heritage Site, was constructed between 1295-1330 to form perfectly symmetrical concentric lines of fortification with a moat and a dock for access by supply ships. Along with Harlech Castle, Conwy Castle and Caernarfon Castle, this monument has been part of the Castles and Town Walls of Edward 1 World Heritage Site since 1986. In September, against the backdrop of the castle, there is a food festival in the town where the green is full of marquees and gazebos offering the best of Welsh produce to international street food. Sit and listen to live music from the bandstand or discover local crafts or learn from top local chefs, as they show how to turn regional food into fabulous signature dishes! There is plenty for children to do as well.
