Hotels, Guest accommodation, Self Catering & Camping in Porthmadog
Welcome to Porthmadog, the gateway to Snowdonia National Park. The town is located in the most impressive of settings, with Moel y Gest towering 262 metres above the town and the Glaslyn Estuary to the north and east. Porthmadog is a lively and friendly harbour town with a good range of shops and attractions, including nearby Portmeirion. It is full of independent shops and places to eat. With all the majesty of Snowdonia as a backdrop and a coastline with beaches second to none, you could not find a more attractive spot for a holiday! Narrow-gauge railway enthusiasts love Porthmadog with its 3 lines; the Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland Heritage (with its excellent hands-on railway museum) and the similarly-named but separate Welsh Highland running all the way to Caernarfon. The Maritime Museum tells the story of the towns rapid 19th-century growth into a thriving slate exporting and shipbuilding port for handsome three-masted schooners. One of the best-loved landmark in Porthmadog is The Cob, a mile-long embankment across the estuary. Porthmadog is a good base for walkers and cyclists following the Llyn Coastal Path and Lon Ardudwy bike route. Other attractions include Black Rock Llamas and Y Bragdy Mws Piws / The Purple Moose Brewery, a micro-brewery based in the town.
