Llangefni is the second largest settlement on Anglesey behind Holyhead, where more than 80% of the population speak Welsh. The town is near the centre of the island, on the banks of the River Cefni, after which it is named. Close to the excellent A55 Expressway, it is only 20 minutes by car to Holyhead and the ferries to Ireland. There are cafes, pubs, restaurants plus a wide variety of shopping facilities and accommodation. Llangefni hosts a lively open-air market on both Thursdays and Saturday. Llangefni has both leisure centre and 9-hole golf course/driving range and its other attractions include the Oriel Ynys Mon museum and art gallery which details the history of Anglesey and houses the legacy collection of artist Charles Tunnicliffe. In the north of the town, is a Victorian parish church, St Cyngars, set in a wooded riverside location called the Dingle. The Dingle Nature Reserve is a beautiful 25-acre wooded valley rich in wildlife and history. The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife including kingfishers, moorhens, woodpeckers, foxes, bats and dragonflies. Much of the ancient woodland is a carpet of bluebells and wood anemones in the spring. There is a wooden boardwalk that winds its way along the Cefni, three new bridges, sculptures, sculpted benches and picnic tables.
