Porthcawl is a former coal port with a proud industrial heritage. The town is now a busy seaside resort with many attractions, including 7 beaches, an esplanade, traditional fairground, town museum, 3 golf courses and the Grand Pavilion Theatre. Coney Beach has donkey rides and a fairground, and surfers go to the golden sands of Rest Bay, which has been awarded Blue Flag status. At Newton Beach, you will see powerboats and jet skis, and its long sands are great for dog walkers and horse riders. At the end of Porthcawl Pier stands a white lighthouse built in 1860. The pier and surrounding area are popular spots for sea fishing or go you can walking on the wonderful Wales Coastal Path. For shopping, head to John Street. Porthcawl has larger chains, independent boutiques, a surf shop, plus, delis, restaurants, pubs and excellent fish and chip shops! Elvis fans should visit in September for the famous Porthcawl Elvis Festival.
