Known as the Queen of the Valleys, Aberdare is a town in the beautiful setting of the Cynon Valley, one of many former coal mining valleys within south Wales. The town centre is crowned by the 180-foot spire of St Elvan’s Church. To one side is the landscaped area of the Rock Grounds, whilst on the other side are the main shopping areas, Canon Street, Cardiff Road and Victoria Square. Aberdare boasts a good number of restaurants, cafés, pubs and accommodation. Commercial Street and Market Street are pedestrianised, and no visit to the town would be complete without a look round its Indoor Market. Aberdare Golf Club is a parkland golf course on the hillsides overlooking the Cynon Valley, if you fancy a round! The popular Dare Valley Country Park has 500 acres of countryside with walks, trails and family fun.
