Oxwich is a small seaside village on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales. Once a port exporting limestone quarried from the headland of Oxwich Point, the village is now a quiet place, except in the summer months, when it is popular with visitors. The bay is magnificent, with three miles of sandy beach, wooded cliffs at one end and backed by sand dunes. It is a popular place for swimming and watersports including diving, sailing, water skiing and windsurfing. A wetland site at the rear of the dunes forms Oxwich Burrows National Nature Reserve. There is a public footpath along the cliffs from Oxwich Bay, around Oxwich Point to Port Eynon Bay. The village has several fine cottages and the church of St. Illtud, originally founded in the 6th century, is nestled in a woodland setting. Continuing past the church, a path climbs up the cliff and has superb views of the coast. Take the road up the hill and you come to Oxwich Castle, which is open to visitors between May and September.
