Winchcombe is a charming town with Cotswold stone cottages and black and white half-timbered buildings, narrow side streets and charming houses in the centre of the town. Winchcombe sits on seven long-distance footpaths and has ‘Walkers are Welcome’ status and hosts an annual walking festival in May. You can visit a remote Roman villa, Belas Knap Long Barrow, a Neolithic burial site, as well as climb to the top of the Cotswold scarp and get fantastic views. Other must-see places include Sudeley Castle with its stunning gardens; St Peter’s Church which is home to an altar cloth made by Catherine of Aragon and 40 grotesques, remains of Hailes Abbey, Winchcombe Pottery, the Folk and Police Museum and the Railway Museum. Winchcombe also has plenty of shops, galleries, tea rooms, a wealth of historic pubs and restaurants.
