Bere Regis is a village in the Purbeck district of Dorset, situated 6 miles from Wareham. The chalk of the Dorset Downs is to the north, to the south-east is Wareham Forest, further to the south is the chalk ridge of the Purbeck Hills and 10 miles to the south is the Jurassic Coast. The village features St John the Baptist church which has a history dating back 1000 years. Next to Bere Stream, there is a lovely riverside boardwalk and bridge. Bere Regis has a farm shop, two village pubs and a shop. Close by are the villages of Briantspuddle, Affpuddle and Turnerspuddle, which are quiet and picturesque. The beautiful Athelhampton House is just a short drive away. Both the Lawrence Ride and Purbeck Ride cycle routes skirt the southern edge of Bere Regis. The Jubilee Trail walking route also passes through the village. There are numerous outdoor activities within easy reach including quad biking, hang gliding and clay pigeon shooting. The village featured in several novels of Thomas Hardy, most notably, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, where the village was portrayed as Kingsbere.
