Honiton is a market town in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is traditionally known for lace making and pottery. In the 19th century, Queen Victoria had her wedding dress made of Honiton lace. This intricate finely crafted bobbin lace can be viewed at Allhallows Museum which also holds lace-making demonstrations in summer. The buildings of High Street are almost all Georgian. Of particular interest are Marwood House and the Manor House, which was originally a coaching inn. Visit the award-winning Thelma Hubert Gallery featuring local art and exhibitions. Iron Age Hembury Fort and Blackbury Camp are also attractions worth a visit. The Hot Pennies ceremony takes place annually in July in the High Street of the town, where warm pennies are thrown from a number of balconies in the High Street to crowds of local people. Honiton hosts the annual Honiton Agricultural Show in August. There is a biannual Honiton Festival in May and the Honiton and District Carnival in October.
