Hotels, Guest accommodation & Self Catering in Axminster
Axminster is a market town on the eastern border of Devon. The town is built on a hill overlooking the River Axe. Axminster famously gave its name to a type of carpet. Whilst Axminster carpets are still made in the town, this type of carpet is also now manufactured all over the world. Discover the history and heritage of this town at the local museum, explore the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, walk for miles in the stunning countryside and ancient woodlands, and explore the Axe Valley rivers. The East Devon Way footpath and Buzzard Route cycle track pass close to the town, while the mudflats of the Axe estuary are superb for birdwatching. Interesting places nearby include Loughwood Meeting House at Dalwood and Shute Barton, which boasts the largest open fireplace in England. Axminster is an excellent touring centre within easy reach of the Blackdown Hills and the Jurassic Coast.
