Hotels, Guest accommodation & Self Catering in Ottery St Mary
Ottery St Mary is a town in Devon, steeped in history and famous for being the birthplace of poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Ottery's most important building is the parish church of St. Mary, a magnificent scaled-down version of Exeter Cathedral. Take a stroll beside the river to admire the Tumbling Weir constructed in 1790. Ottery has many independent shops, national chains, eateries and pubs. There is a great community market held each month. Other events that take place in town are the Food and Families Festival, Pixie Day in June and Otter Vale Art Society’s Show in August. The Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels are the town's most famous event where men shouldering flaming tar barrels run through packed crowds. Nearby Cadhay House is a Tudor manor house while Escot Estate offers gardens designed by Capability Brown, animals, woodland walks and a maze. Ottery St. Mary has given literary inspiration to many, and is now known to Harry Potter readers as Ottery St. Catchpole!
