Known as simply Bovey and The Gateway to the Moor by the local community, Bovey Tracey is a small granite market town on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The town has a rich history and over a hundred listed buildings. This is a busy and friendly town with many cafés, bars, restaurants and shops selling local produce, set against the backdrop of Haytor, one of Dartmoors highest peaks at 457 metres. Close by is Haytor Quarry where granite was hewn for prestigious buildings in London including London Bridge. A popular attraction in Bovey is the House of Marbles studio. The Devon Guild of Craftsmen at the converted Riverside Mill provides a fascinating insight into the work of craftsmen and woman where you can watch them creating jewellery, prints, glass and sculptures. There is also a Heritage Centre detailing the history of the town. Bovey is the perfect place to explore southern Dartmoor which is a haven for walkers, climbers, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts. This is also the start of the Templer Way which is an 18 mile walk that takes you all the way to the coast at Teignmouth.
