East Grinstead is a town in West Sussex and the capital of the historic High Weald. This ancient market town has a wealth of architectural heritage, is located on the Greenwich Meridian and surrounded by some of the finest countryside in south-east England. Ashdown Forest, where the stories of Winnie the Pooh were set, lies to the south-east of the town. There are many friendly restaurants, pubs, bars and coffee shops, and the High Street contains one of the longest continuous runs of 14th-century timber-framed buildings in England. Just on the southern outskirts of the town lies Standen House and Garden owned by the National Trust. Sackville College in the town is where the famous carol Good King Wenceslas was written. For a fun day out, visit The Bluebell Railway, a heritage railway running for 11 miles along the border between East Sussex and West Sussex into East Grinstead.
