Banbury is a bustling market town in Oxfordshire on the edge of the Cotswolds. The nursery rhyme, 'Ride a Cock Horse', made Banbury famous, and a Cross is still located in the town. The town is also famous for its delicious Banbury Cakes. There are plenty of great shops, friendly inns and good eateries in the town. There are also markets on Thursdays and Saturdays, as well as a Farmers Market once a month. Banbury Museum is next to the canal, and Tooley's Boatyard, a scheduled monument, adjoins it. You can learn canal-related crafts like painting roses and castles, or get out on the water on a boat trip. Visit the Mill Arts Centre, a multi-arts venue with live music, theatre and shows. Discover some history at the 14th Century Broughton Castle or at nearby Edgehill, the scene of the first Civil War battle of 1642, and at the 17th century Upton House.
