Freshwater is a large village at the western end of the Isle of Wight, famous for its geology and coastal rock formations. The village is the main shopping area for the west of the Isle of Wight, and there are various options for places to eat. There are two churches in Freshwater, the medieval All Saint’s and the thatched church of St Agnes. Dimbola Lodge was the Isle of Wight home of the Victorian pioneer photographer Julia Margaret Cameron and is now a museum and gallery. Freshwater Bay is a small cove easily recognised by its chalk cliffs. It is popular for watersports and boating. From here, it is easy to access the coast path in either direction. Tennyson Down (named after the local poet Alfred Tennyson) which rises above Freshwater, opens up to panoramic views and runs along to the iconic Needles rocks and lighthouse at the most westerly tip of the Island.
