Heathfield is a small market town standing on a ridge and surrounded by beautiful Sussex countryside. It boasts magnificent vistas to the south from the High Street. Heathfield is 16 miles from Eastbourne and 17 miles from Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent. Within the town, there are various shops including boutiques, bookshops, cafes, pubs, takeaways and restaurants. The town centre has a strong Victorian and Edwardian character. The nearby mansion of Heathfield Park dates from the seventeenth century and has a memorial named the Gibraltar Tower. To the north-east, Braylsham Castle is a modern house built in imitation of a moated medieval manor house, complete with working drawbridge. Heathfield holds an annual fair named the Heffle Cuckoo Fair each April, the annual Heathfield Show takes place each May and there is an Anglo-French market held every year on the August Bank Holiday.
