Innerleithen is a small town between Peebles and Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. The layout of the town is dominated by surrounding hills and the area around Innerleithen has been occupied since pre-Roman times. The remains of an Iron-Age hill fort are visible on top of Caerlee Hill and defensive ditch works are visible on Windy Knowe. A semi-permanent Roman marching camp was also discovered on the flood plain by the River Tweed. Tourist attractions within the town include Robert Smails Printing Works and St Ronans Wells. Popular activities include golfing, walking and mountain biking. The area is famous for fly fishing, and there is a fish ladder just outside the town boundary on Leithen Road. This proves a popular stopping point to watch the autumn and winter runs of salmon.

Nearby, Traquair House is the oldest inhabited house in Scotland. Innerleithen is also popular for mountain biking and, together with Glentress, forms one of the 7 Stanes. If you want some cross-country action, there is the excellent and challenging red-graded Innerleithen XC trail.
