Pitlochry is a town on the banks of the River Tummel, just off the main A9 Perth to Inverness road. Its railway station is on the main East Coast Line between London and Inverness. Pitlochry is largely a Victorian town, well-known for its Festival Theatre known as ‘Theatre in the Hills’ and as a centre for hillwalking and outdoors activities, surrounded by mountains such as Ben Vrackie and Schiehallion. The town’s most famous attraction is the Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder which sees around 5000 salmon make their annual uphill journey. Make sure to stop in at the House of Bruar, for high-end Scottish produce and also visit the Blair Athol and Edradour whisky distilleries, which both have visitor centres. Pitlochry also has an excellent golf course. Named after Queen Victoria, Queen's View, just outside of the town, overlooks Loch Tummel and boasts an unforgettable view. Situated within the Tay Forest Park, Faskally Wood is home to a wide range of tree species, as well as hosting the popular Enchanted Forest event in October. To the north, Killiecrankie Gorge was once the site of one of the goriest battles in Jacobite history. Head to the visitor centre where you can find out more.
