Hotels, Guest accommodation, Self Catering & Camping in Aberfeldy
A small Perthshire market town on the south bank of the River Tay, Aberfeldy is famously known for the poem ‘The Birks Of Aberfeldy’ by Scotland’s National Bard, Robert Burns, who was inspired by the area. The town owes much of its early growth to the first bridging of the river here in 1733 which was built as part of the network of military roads put in place by General George Wade following the 1715 Jacobite uprising. Overlooking the river and bridge, with views to Glen Lyon and Ben Lawers, is the Black Watch Army Regiment Memorial. The Square offers a range of shops and amenities including the Birks Cinema, a beautiful 1930s Art Deco building. Aberfeldy Watermill has a bookshop, gallery and café, set in a converted oatmeal mill and Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery is also a popular visitor attraction, built in 1896 and offering guided tours and a heritage centre exploring the history of whisky in the region. Aberfeldy stands on the 79-mile Rob Roy Way long distance footpath which is popular with walkers. Close by is the small village of Weem where Castle Menzies, the ancestral seat of the Clan Menzies and the Old Kirk of Weem is located.
