Comrie is an historic conservation village in Perth and Kinross. Its position on the Highland Boundary Fault accounts for it having more earth tremors than anywhere else in Britain, which has resulted in the nickname ‘Shaky Toun / Toon’. The position of Comrie on the Highland Boundary Fault also gives the village a claim to be the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’. To the north of the village, Ben Chonzie and the Grampian Mountains rise majestically, while to the south, broad open moorland is joined by lesser mountains and beautiful glens. The village has a good range of amenities including convenience shops, a butcher, baker, newsagents, pubs, restaurants, cafés and a delicatessen. There are walks to suit all abilities in and around the area and excellent fishing found locally. The surrounding lanes and roads are ideal for cycling and there are also plenty of off-road tracks for mountain biking. There are around 40 golf courses in Perthshire, from the local 9-hole course to the world-class championship courses at Gleneagles, half an hour’s drive away.
