Auchterarder is a small town just north of the Ochil Hills in Perth and Kinross. Established in the 13th century, the surrounding area contains much of historic interest including Pictish forts, Roman roads, Benedictine abbeys, Celtic chapels and the oldest public library in Scotland. With the longest high street in Scotland, giving it the nickname of the ‘Lang Toun’ or Long Town, Auchterarder is a shopping destination, with an excellent selection of independent shops and cafés. It is also known for its proximity to the world-famous Gleneagles. Other attractions include the Heritage Museum in Glenruthven Mill and Auchterarder Golf Club. This parkland course has spectacular views and runs alongside the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles, the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup between Europe and the USA. As well as plenty of golf courses, the area has opportunities for horse riding, shooting, fishing and falconry. Auchterarder is just 15 minutes north of Stirling, 10 minutes south of Perth and Gleneagles train station provides rail links to Edinburgh.
