Strathpeffer is a scenic village in the Scottish Highlands, just 17 miles from Inverness. In the Victorian era, the village was a spa resort and many buildings remain from this era, such as the Pump Room and Strathpeffer Pavilion. The village has cafes, restaurants, pubs and local shops. Visitor attractions include the old railway station which houses the Highland Museum of Childhood. Near the station is the Pictish carved stone; the Eagle Stone. Castle Leod, the seat of Clan McKenzie, is a short walk just outside the village. The Strathpeffer Highland Games take place in the castle grounds every August. Situated within striking distance of Ben Wyvis, Strathpeffer is a popular base for walkers and outdoors enthusiasts. For golfers, Strathpeffer Spa Golf Course offers panoramic views over the Cromarty Firth and surrounding hills. The village is also home to ‘The Strathpuffer’ extreme mountain bike race held in January each year. The Strathpeffer and District Pipe Band and local Highland dancers perform in the Square every Saturday from May to September, which is popular with visitors and locals alike.
