Hotels, Guest accommodation, Self Catering & Camping in Contin
The village of Contin lies on the A835 from Inverness to Ullapool at the point where the farmlands of Easter Ross give way to the rugged splendour of the Highlands, typified by Ben Wyvis. Inverness is 18 miles to the south, and a 40-mile drive west through magnificent scenery leads to Ullapool, where the ferry leaves for Stornoway. Contin is a centre for mountain biking, golf, angling, riding, walking and climbing. Local attractions include Loch Achilty, a small picturesque loch set within sloping birch and oakwoods. At the far end of the loch is a charming pebble beach with quiet picnic areas. Visit Rogie Falls, a series of impressive waterfalls that can be viewed from a suspension bridge across the beautiful Black Water river. During August and September there is an excellent chance of seeing wild salmon leaping upstream. Visit after heavy rain or snow, when water gushes and tumbles from the slopes of Ben Wyvis, and the Falls of Rogie are even more sensational. The surrounding rivers Black Water and Conon are filled with trout and salmon, so it is popular with those wanting to fish. The church in Contin is dedicated to St Maelrubha, and the present building dates back to the 18th century.
