Lockerbie is a town in Dumfries and Galloway, south-west Scotland, about 20 miles from the border with England. This friendly Scottish town serves as the ideal starting point to explore either the beautiful Scottish Borders or the spectacular Dumfries and Galloway regions. There are various shops within the town, and a variety of places to enjoy a meal or snack. Lockerbie Ice Rink is one of the oldest indoor ice rinks in the country. In curling it has given rise to World and European Champions and Olympians. At nearby Dalton Pottery, you can have fun painting your very own pot to take home.
Much of Lockerbie is built from red sandstone. There are several imposing buildings near the centre, including the Town Hall with its clock tower and Dryfesdale Parish Church. The name Dryfesdale comes from the local river, the Dryfe Water, which joins the River Annan west of the town. Dryfesdale Lodge Visitors Centre hosts permanent exhibition rooms and displays ten history panels depicting Lockerbies past, stretching from its prehistoric origins to the 1988 terrorist attack and beyond. In the cemetery grounds nearby, are the Lockerbie Garden of Remembrance and Air Disaster Memorial. There are also memorials in Sherwood Crescent, at Tundergarth Church and a Memorial Window in Lockerbie Town Hall.
