Dalbeattie sits in the wooded Urr Valley, about 12 miles from Dumfries, on the coast road. This friendly Scottish town is a perfect base for exploring this beautiful coastal region. Today, Dalbeattie has many independent shops and great places to eat out. Dalbeattie has a recently enlarged museum devoted to the history of the town and surrounding area. There is also a small art gallery, the Nail Factory, which hosts exhibitions, usually of work by local artists. Dalbeatties best-known historical figure is Lt William McMaster Murdoch, who was First Officer aboard the Titanic.
