Port William is a fishing village on the eastern shore of Luce Bay, in the Scottish Borders area of Dumfries and Galloway. An excellent base for a short break or holiday, in and around Port William, there are safe beaches, a scenic coastline, diverse wildlife, great walking, quiet roads for cycling and plenty of opportunities to play a round of golf! The village has places to eat, as well as a Post Office, petrol station and independent shops. A popular landmark in Port William is the bronze statue of a fisherman leaning on a railing gazing out to sea, created by award-winning sculptor Andrew Brown from Stranraer. Beside the statue is a sign reading “What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare” from the poem ‘Leisure’ by WH Davies. The harbour is a haven for leisure craft and on clear days, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland are visible. Port William is about a 35-mile drive from Cairnryan ferry port.
