Sedgefield is a market town in County Durham with lots of things to see and do. Local landmarks include St Edmund's church, noted for its ornate 17th-century Cosin woodwork, unique to County Durham. Ceddesfeld Hall was originally the rectory to the church and the grounds, now a public area, were laid out in the mid-18th century. The Manor House occupies a prominent position at the head of the green and is a fine example of Queen Anne Architecture. The Parish Hall was founded in 1849 and continues to host a wide range of social events and entertainment. Sedgefield Racecourse is a popular horse racing venue, used for jump racing. Hardwick Hall Country Park is a park located near Sedgefield and registered as being "of exceptional historic interest." In 2003, a Roman ladder settlement was discovered in fields just to the west of Sedgefield. It consisted of rows of crofts and workshops on either side of a north-south trackway.
