Hotels, Guest accommodation & Self Catering in Tow Law
Tow Law is a former mining village in County Durham, sitting on the brow of the Wear Valley; the gateway to the North Pennines. It is within easy reach of Durham, Newcastle, and Sunderland. Stockton, and Middlesbrough are also reachable within an hour’s drive. Tow Law is famously mentioned in the first line of the Mark Knopfler song, Hill Farmer’s Blues. Inkerman Beehive Coke Ovens are a mile north of Tow Law. This is a scheduled English Heritage site. Built in 1875, there were 21 ovens serving the extraction needs of the Inkerman Colliery, although only 7 are now visible. These are one of the few remaining examples of this important industry in County Durham. Tow Law Wind Farm is just 1 mile north east of Tow Law on the B6301. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking, cycling and riding and there are plenty of attractions nearby including Hill Hall Farm, North Star Alpacas, Hamstersley Forest and the Weardale Railway.
