The Ancient Unicorn

Situated in the centre of the County Durham village of Bowes, The Ancient Unicorn is an 18th century former coaching inn, now offering beautifully-styled guest rooms, a bar, coffee shop and superb home cooked food. Easily located off the A66 Trans-Pennine Way and Pennine Way, our guests can all expect a warm welcome.

Rooms are in the main inn or sensitively-converted stable. All have benefitted from a recent refurbishment to provide a comfortable stay for weary travellers and holiday makers. There are double, twin, family and dog-friendly rooms, most of which have their own en suite facilities. The Garden Suite has both a double and a twin room.

A hearty breakfast is available to overnight guests in the morning and the bar and restaurant is open to all for delicious all-day breakfasts, lunches and evening meals. The Coffee Shop provides a selection of hot and cold drinks and home-made cakes for travellers looking for light refreshments. Ample on-site parking is available.
