Harlow is a town in western Essex near the border with Hertfordshire. The M11 motorway passes through to the east of the town. Harlow New Town was built after World War II to ease overcrowding in London. Old Harlow is a village-sized suburb founded by the early medieval age and most of its high street buildings are early Victorian. Nearby Harlowbury is a de-settled monastic area which has the remains of a chapel; a scheduled ancient monument. Harlow offers arts, culture and theatre as well as sports, parks and nature reserves. Harlow Town Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country and includes an adventure playground, water garden, paddling pool, outdoor gym, a skatepark and showground.
