Frinton-on-Sea is a small, quiet seaside town in Essex. Frinton’s beach is sandy and golden; perfect for making sandcastles, and along the seawall runs a mile-long promenade with rows of Victorian-style beach huts. There is also an extensive grassy area, the Greensward, which is an ideal spot for a picnic. There are intentionally no amusement arcades or traders, creating an atmosphere of an old-fashioned seaside day out! Edwardian houses and pretty gardens line a grid of leafy avenues between the railway and the seafront. In the town centre, Connaught Avenue has Frinton’s pub, The Lock and Barrel, while by day Café 19 is popular. Frinton has a yacht club, lawn tennis courts and a golf club. Other available outdoor activities include walking, cycling, cricket, fossil-hunting on the Naze (sharks teeth are a speciality), boating on the backwaters and picnicking. Frinton has a summer theatre season at the McGrigor Hall in July and a small literary festival in October.
