High Peak is a borough in Derbyshire, mostly composed of high moorland plateau, in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park. This is an excellent place to enjoy fantastic local produce, explore caves and caverns, and walk along some of the most scenic routes in Britain. The area’s natural beauty comprises moors and dales, rivers, springs, caverns and breath-taking views, including from Kinder Scout, the highest point in Derbyshire. This unique area is home to many charming towns and villages. Castleton hosts caving attractions, including the well-known Blue John Cavern and Speedwell Cavern, which offers an underground boat ride. Castleton also has the interesting ruins of Peveril Castle. Buxton is also a highlight, with its Pavilion Gardens, Poole’s Cavern and Buxton Country Park. Edale is another popular destination as the start / end of the Pennine Way, as is the ‘Capital of the Peak’, historical Chapel-en-le-Frith, with its superb range of independent shops, award-winning cafes and restaurants. For outdoors enthusiasts, the Pennine Way crosses Kinder Scout and the moors to the north. The High Peak Trail and Tissington Trail are also popular routes to walk, cycle or ride a horse on, all year round. Ladybower Reservoir is also a magnet for outdoors-lovers, with its viewpoints, including Bamford Edge.
